For us at hoam.earth (we’re building a parallel earth sim), the challenge is actually writing ‘on top’ of ChatGPT but in a way that harnesses the AI to generate from ‘outside’ conventional wisdom. This presents its own challenges and opportunities, but def falls within the framework of proto-apps. Thank you
interesting read - doing research on ActivityPub and Mastodon I have read that Mastodon had become the leading activitypub implementation and that over time it had become a backend that builders use to build their apps. So similar trajectory as one of a proto app - starting off as a client and transitioning into a proto-app? maybe that's something open source naturally incentivizes too when projects are successful
Great piece David - you earned the shill.

Great post, thanks. I think we're going to start seeing many more PWAs in next few months and years.
I enjoyed reading it, thank you.
I am so over apps though. Like we're still stuck in 2013 for lemming ways of digital technology distribution.

This was a well-crafted and honed essay. Thanks for sharing.
